The low-down on the ingredients
Ginger: This vegetable (yes it’s technically a veg!) belongs to the zingiberaceae family and originated in South-East Asia. Used in many recipes across the globe, research widely documents the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of ginger. Consuming antioxidant-rich foods can help to reduce inflammation and keep your immune system healthy.
Pineapple: Pineapple is delicious, nutritious fruit with anti-inflammatory properties which can help the immune system. Used in traditional medicine for many years, pineapples contain an enzyme called bromelain which has many therapeutic properties. It’s also jam-packed full of other vitamins and minerals including vitamin A, C, E, and K – it even has calcium!
Spinach: When you think of vitamin C, you probably picture an orange! Well, it may surprise you to know that spinach is also chock-full of vitamin C, which is great for our immune system. Spinach has been hailed as a superfood for years, and for good reason. Goodies like vitamin C, vitamin E, magnesium, flavonoids, and antioxidants can help increase our immune system’s ability to fight infection. It is widely considered to be better for us when cooked as little as possible which is why using it raw in a smoothie is a great way to enjoy it and get maximum health benefits.
Lemon: There’s a good reason lemon and honey are used to fight off colds. Lemon is rich in vitamin C and has both antibacterial and antioxidant properties to help support your immune system.
